How Long should a facial treatment last?

You just received a facial so naturally you feel on top of the world! Your skin is glowing, rough, dry skin is now smooth and hydrated, and you just feel like your skin is brighter and cleaner. Wish it could last forever?  We all do. Short of moving into your esthetician’s house, how do you get that fresh facial feeling every day?

The reality of it is, you can’t leave all the work to the esthetician – you are also responsible for the long-term results.

What Can You Expect Short Term?

Let’s get the number one question out of the way—you will see results after your first facial! It’s not a quick fix and your skin issues won’t disappear overnight, but there will be a visible result.

Expect an immediate increase in hydration, which will lend a dewy glow to your whole appearance. The glow will stick around for a few days, maybe weeks, but the real return comes when you combine the results of this facial with at-home care.

What Can You Expect Long Term?

Skin care is like a marathon, not a sprint. It’s not about doing everything at once for an immediate effect, but a compounding of good habits over time combined with gentle, yet effective products. If you want to see good results in a relatively short amount of time, book a series of facials spanning several months. If you book a series of facials to target a specific concern, the effects will be most apparent after a few weeks. Of course, this is with an accompanying at-home routine.

Why is that? Keeping the skin hydrated over long periods of time is key to your skin working at its peak functional performance. Think about it, your body is over 70% water, and your skin is the most exposed organ you have! That means sun, wind and other external factors are doing their best to take whatever moisture you’re willing to give up, so play hard to get! Give the elements a run for their money and reintroduce hydration into your skin for the long haul. It all begins after your first facial.

How Can You Make The Results of a Facial Last?

There may be many things no one has ever told you about facials, but we’ll let you in on an important point everyone should note: Estheticians are not magicians—they can only do so much.

If you don’t do your part to maintain the beautiful work they’ve done, then even the best facial in the world is not enough. The very first step you can do is to make sure you don’t wash off that beautiful facial after your spa visit. Your face will still have traces of Peptides, nutrients, and vitamins, and that’s something you want to leave on your skin, not wipe off—that would be like flushing your money down the drain!

Post-Facial Care

While at your regular spa visit, make sure to ask your esthetician for product recommendations so you know exactly what to use to maintain those results when you get home.

Think about it—they’ve been looking at your skin for a long period of time, up close and personal, and are looking from angles you can’t see on your own, so they get the full picture. It only makes sense to have that same expert who has just examined your skin for an hour to recommend what’s best for it.

Don’t be shy to browse and ask questions about their different premier skin care collections if you feel one may be a better fit. For instance, if you go in for troubled skin and you’re recommended products for oily problem skin, yet you really want to do something about your crow’s feet, don’t hesitate to ask!

The next time you make a visit to the esthetician, both of you will be so happy you’ve followed your tailored skin care routine, because the esthetician’s job just became that much easier. By using products recommended by an esthetician, you will feel like you’re making improvements every week instead of just maintenance.

This will not cost you an arm and a leg either! It’s actually more economical in the long run to practice daily skin care and book regularly scheduled spa visits throughout the year when signs you need a facialcrop up, than to be booking five spa visits in two months to tackle a long overdue skin concern.

So book regular spa visits, practice daily skin care, and the results will last a lifetime!
