What is a “Synthetic” Vitamin?

For the average person, the health food and vitamin landscape is overwhelming at best and confusing at worst. When you walk into the vitamin department, you expect to find healthy foods and supplements.  But, did you know there’s such a thing as synthetic vitamins as opposed to natural vitamins?
When you think about vitamins, you probably automatically think “healthy” and “natural”.  Unfortunately, that’s just not so.  In fact, some synthetic vitamins, which are made up of isolated nutrients and synthetic ingredients, can actually build up in your fatty tissues and cause toxicity.
Most synthetic vitamins are derived from chemical compounds and other synthetic ingredients, the likes of which certainly aren’t found in nature.  For thousands of years, the human body has become adept at metabolizing and digesting foods found in nature and, because of that, your body prefers natural vitamins and ingredients (such as those found in whole foods) as opposed to the chemical compounds found in many synthetic vitamins and supplements.  And, believe it or not, the human body is smart enough to know the difference between natural vitamins and synthetic vitamins.

Synthetic Vitamin Problems

With some synthetic vitamins, the body is able to flush them out easily because of their water solubility.  In fact, when you take some synthetic vitamins, you may notice that your urine turns a bright yellow color, particularly with Vitamin B12.  Rest assured the body is doing its job: flushing out the excess that it can’t use.  But, while the body is flushing out the excess, the kidneys are also being taxed to remove that excess.   Additionally, some synthetic vitamins are made up of ingredients that have a low bioavailability, and your body is unable to utilize most of the nutrients, which means your money is, quite literally, flushed down the toilet.
In addition to the increased potential for toxicity when taking some synthetic vitamins, there’s also an increase potential for allergic reactions.  Since some synthetic vitamins are largely made up of chemicals, including nicotine and coal tars, some individuals may experience allergic reactions when taking them.
But, what about fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E & vitamin K?  Aren’t they always considered natural vitamins?  The simple answer is “no“.  Fat-soluble vitamins can be chemically altered with synthetic ingredients in a laboratory, resulting in pure synthetic vitamins. And, because they are dissolved in fat instead of water, if you take more of these fat-soluble vitamins than your body can metabolize, they will be stored up within your fat cells.  Over time they can accumulate, resulting in toxicity and creating even more health problems for you!
The alternative to synthetic vitamins is clear: eat as many whole foods as possible and take only the finest natural vitamins, except in certain circumstances.

Identifying The Finest Natural Vitamins

While the solution is simple, you may find yourself asking the question, “what exactly are natural vitamins?”  Unfortunately, that’s where the simplicity ends and the complexity begins.  While the label on a vitamin can reveal some vital information, it doesn’t always tell the whole story.  For example, many vitamins contain the label “natural”.  This can mislead many into thinking that the vitamin is made up entirely or even mostly of natural ingredients.  In fact, within the United States, this is simply untrue.   Vitamins can be labeled as natural by containing as little as 10% of the natural form of the vitamin.  That means the other 90% could contain purely synthetic, isolated nutrients.  Not nearly as natural as you thought, right?
Another label that can be misleading is the label, “organic”.  While many people consider products labeled organic to be vastly superior to those that aren’t organic, this isn’t always the case.  For example, some sources of Omega 3s can’t be certified organic – like fish oils.  And, if a vitamin contains Omega 3s from fish oils, it can’t be certified as entirely organic.  That doesn’t, however, mean the particular vitamin isn’t superior to the competition. It just takes a bit more investigative work to determine if they are among the finest natural vitamins and if they are superior to the competition.

Reading The Label

While labels can’t always tell the whole story, the ingredient labels should give you further insight into whether they are the finest natural vitamins or if they are made up of mostly synthetic ingredients.  The finest vitamins will most likely include a mix of natural and synthetic vitamins, chosen based on risk factors and bioavailability.  Look for the parenthesis after the listed ingredient which can help you tell what form the supplement uses.  To identify synthetic vitamins, look for words that begin with “dl” in the vitamin’s ingredients.  When an ingredient contains these letters, it is an indication that the vitamin is synthetic.  For example, “dl-alpha tocopherol” is one synthetic form of vitamin E.
By taking the best forms of vitamins – whether natural or synthetic, you allow the ingredients to work synergistically within your body, and allow the vitamins the best possible chance for producing the desired results in your life.  To learn more about which vitamins are best in their natural form, and which in their synthetic, read more in our ongoing series of Natural vs Synthetic Vitamins.
NOTE: As with an dietary supplements, seek the advice of a health care professional should you have any conditions that would contraindicate the use of any alternative medicine or therapies.

WHY DOES EVERYONE NEED NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS?

Among the many reasons are:

1. Soil depletion has reduced the nutrient content of our food supply.  In most areas of the world, the land has been over-farmed and over-grazed.  In most of the world, manures and other mineral-rich products are not put back enough on the land.  This has depleted the soil quality.  In many other areas, the soil is just of low quality and is difficult to improve.  This produces food that is low in many minerals, in particular, but also low in vitamins, and hundreds of other nutrients found in food.

2. Hybrid crops provide lower-nutrient food. These are used everywhere today, even on organic farms.  They yield more food per acre, but the crops all have a much lower nutrient content than those grown 100 years ago.  This is well-documented in US Department of Agriculture statistics and elsewhere.
For example, at least ten times as much rice or wheat are grown on the same land as was grown there 100 years ago.  But the land is not stocked with ten times the minerals, vitamins and other nutrients.  As a result, in part, today's wheat contains about 6% protein whereas 100 years ago it contained 12-14%.  Trace mineral levels are similarly much lower due to high-yield farming methods.

3. Modern fertilizers do not supply enough trace elements. One hundred years ago, manures were used extensively for fertilizer.  Today, superphosphate fertilizers have largely replaced manures.  These contain mainly nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus and are deficient in the trace elements.  This is sad, but true.  Our crops are more like a person on steroids – stimulated, but not as strong and safe.
Superphosphates often act more as growth stimulants.  This has contributed greatly to depletion of the soil and crop minerals.  This includes organically grown food, although it is much better.

4. Modern use of chemical pesticides and herbicides all over the world make food somewhat toxic, and damage soil microorganisms.  Both of these also reduce the nutrition of the crops.  Soil microorganisms are needed to make minerals and other nutrients available to plants.  When these are damaged by Roundup, and hundreds of other toxic pesticides, insecticides and other chemicals put on crops, the soil micro-organisms do not function as well, and the nutrient content of the food becomes lower.
Also, our bodies require extra nutrients to process pesticide residues that remain inside the foods, so the pesticides that we must eat daily also reduce our nutritional status each and every day.  Many pesticides are deadly chemicals that severely tax the human system.  Some contain lead, arsenic and other toxic metals that slowly accumulate in the body.
Our laws currently allow sewage and even factory sludge to be sold as fertilizer that contains significant quantities of toxic metals.   These add greatly to our toxic metal burden and requires that we take in nutrients to help remove them from the body.

5. Long-distance transportation of many foods diminishes their nutritional content.  As soon as a food is harvested, the levels of certain nutrients begin to diminish.  Today, many foods are grown thousands of miles from population centers.  The food may spend a week on a truck or a train before it reaches you.
In addition, some foods, especially fruits, must be sprayed, irradiated, or processed in other ways in order to survive the journey across the world.  For example, many people do not realize that much of our food comes from South America, Asia and China.  These are miles away and transportation is slow.  The food can grow moldy and you wouldn’t even know it.

6. Food processing often drastically reduces the nutrient content of common foods such as wheat flour, rice, dairy products and others.  For example, the refining of wheat to make white flour removes 80% of its magnesium, 70-80% of its zinc, 87% of its chromium, 88% of its manganese and 50% of its cobalt.
Similarly, refining sugar cane to make white sugar removes 99% of its magnesium and 93% of its chromium.  Polishing (refining) rice removes 75% of its zinc and chromium.  This is just the beginning of most food processing, however.
This is why fresh frozen vegetables, and freshly canned sardines are not that bad.  At least they are preserved quickly after harvesting or catching the fish, and the preservation method is not that terrible.  The best food, however, is freshly harvested or freshly killed and eaten quickly.
Pasteurization and homogenization of dairy products drastically reduces the bioavailability of calcium, phosphorus and some proteins in milk and other dairy products.  This is one of the worst insults to our food today.

7. Food additives often further deplete nutrients.  Thousands of artificial flavors, colors, dough conditioners, sweeteners, artificial sweeteners, stabilizers, flavor enhancers like MSG, emulsifiers, hardeners, softeners, chemical preservatives and other chemicals are added to most people’s food today.  While a few are harmless and may even increase the quality of the food by preserving it, many are toxic and many diminish the nutritional content of the food.
Among the worst are preservatives like BHA and BHT, artificial sweeteners like Aspartame, and perhaps EDTA, a chelating agent, that is added to some frozen vegetables to preserve the color of the vegetables.  The way it works is by removing vital minerals from the surface of the vegetable because when minerals oxidize, the color of the vegetable turns dark and ugly.  This is like tarnishing of silver.

8. Weak digestion and poor eating habits impair the absorption of nutrients.  Almost everyone’s digestion is very weak today.  This is due to eating poor quality food, hybridized varieties of foods like wheat, and having to digest and handle so many refined foods and chemicals in the foods.  It is also due to low vitality, low digestive enzyme secretion, and imbalanced intestinal flora and intestinal infections like yeast that are extremely common.  This is quite a deadly combination.
As a result, most people do not absorb nutrients well at all.  This further impairs nutrient levels in the body, and increases nutritional needs.  This is why in nutritional balancing programs, everyone is given a digestive aid containing digestive enzymes such as pancreatin and ox bile.

9. Stressful and hurried lifestyles impair digestion and use up more nutrients.  These may include calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, manganese and many others.  Zinc begins to be eliminated from the body within minutes of a stress.  This is why many people have white spots on their fingernails, for example.  Stress adds to all the other causes of impaired nutrition above to make things much worse for most people today around the world.
Most people do not realize that stress always causes excessive sympathetic nervous system activity.  This not only uses up nutrients, as explained in the paragraph above.  It also reduces digestive strength and ability.  This, in turn, reduces nutrient absorption and utilization even further.

10. Chronic and acute infections and other illnesses most people have also depletes nutrients and increases nutritional needs.

11. Almost all babies are born deficient today.  In other words, most people need extra nutrition from the day they are born just to make up for deficiencies present at birth.  These are called congenital mineral and other deficiencies, which means present at birth.
It is critical to understand that nutrient deficiencies are passed from mother to child through the placenta.  Those who raise livestock all know this, but somehow medical doctors, nurses and dietitians do not.

12. The increased use of vaccines and medical drugs can drastically deplete a person’s nutrition.  This is especially true of any drug that impairs digestion or absorption of food such as antibiotics, anti-acids, acid-blockers, aspirin, Tylenol, Aleve, Excedrin and hundreds of  other prescription and over-the-counter remedies.

13. Toxic chemicals and toxic metals in the air, water and elsewhere also deplete nutrients and increase the need for nutrition to combat them.  This is an enormous problem today.  Toxic chemicals are everywhere, in buildings, schools, homes, work places, urban air, and in almost all water supplies, even the purest ones.

14. Some medical procedures also drastically deplete nutrients.  These include surgeries of all types, and even some tests such as x-rays.  Surgeries cause stress and add more drugs to the system.  X-rays deplete B-complex vitamins and perhaps other nutrients such as zinc.  This is known in medical circles, but nothing is done about it.

15. Special life situations require extra nutrition.  Medical science knows that many life situations require greater amounts of  nutrition, including:

·           All babies, children, the elderly and all athletes.
·           Anyone born with a birth defect may need additional nutrients.
·           Anyone who is ill, particularly those with a chronic illness.
·           Pregnant and lactating women.
·           Anyone who uses alcohol, refined sugar or recreational drugs such as marijuana.
·           Anyone following a vegetarian or other restricted diet for any reason such as weight loss or anything else.
·           Anyone under extra stress due to financial issues, a difficult job or marriage, or for any other reason.

Add up the numbers in these groups and you have most of the population!  Yet few health professionals are taught that all of these situations require extra nutrients beyond that which is available from only the highest quality food, eaten in a healthful manner.

                   16. Supplements can be used by everyone to protect against disease, eliminate deficiency                            prevent future illness, and balance the body chemistry.

3 Major Benefits of Lemon Water

You're bombarded with toxins in today's modern world... everywhere from the polluted air you breathe, the water you drink, the shampoos and other cosmetics that lather your body with chemicals, and of course, all of the chemical additives, pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and other harmful compounds in the food that you eat.

All of these TOXINS can have harmful effects on your body, harming your metabolism and hormones, impairing your digestive system, and zapping your energy levels.

If I could tell you ONE thing that you could do each morning right as you wake up to help your body eliminate some of these toxins, improve your digestion, stimulate your metabolism, and BOOST your energy, would you do it?
Of course you would... and it takes less than 1 minute!
Here's the trick...
Immediately upon waking each day, squeeze about 1/2 to 1 full lemon (depending on size of the lemon) into an 8 oz glass of warm or room temperature purified water.  This is gentler on your body first thing in the morning compared to ice cold water.  I've found that slicing the lemon into quarters before squeezing by hand is easier than squeezing halves.
Drink this at least 10 minutes before eating any food for the day.
Make sure to use fresh organic lemons to make this drink, and not bottled lemon juice.  You want to use organic lemons to avoid the pesticides that can accumulate.

3 Major benefits of this morning drink to your body, health, and energy:

According to a leading health publication, TheAlternativeDaily.com:

"The health promoting benefits of lemons are powerful. For centuries, it has been known that lemons contain powerful antibacterial, antiviral and immune boosting components. We know that lemons are a great digestive aid and liver cleanser.
Lemons contain citric acid, magnesium, bioflavonoids, vitamin C, pectin, calcium and limonene, which supercharge our immunity so that the body can fight infection.

Lemons are considered one of the most alkalizing foods you can eat. This may seem untrue as they are acidic on their own. However, in the body, lemons are alkaline; the citric acid does not create acidity once it has been metabolized. The minerals in lemons are actually what helps to alkalize the blood.  Most people are too acidic (from eating too much sugar and grains), and drinking warm lemon water helps reduce overall acidity, drawing uric acid from the joints.

This reduces the pain and inflammation which many people feel. And the American Cancer Society recommends warm lemon water to encourage regular bowel movements."

Benefits that you can enjoy:
1. Improves your digestion:
Lemon juice helps your body improve digestion and stimulates bile production. Lemon juice can even be an aid for heartburn and indigestion.

2. Boosts your energy for the day:
Even just the scent of lemon juice has been shown to improve your mood and energy levels, and reduce anxiety.  Plus the detoxifying effect and alkalizing effect of fresh organic lemon juice can improve your energy through the removal of toxins from your body.

3. Helps you to lose fat:
Since lemon juice helps to improve your digestive system, aids in removal of toxins, and increases your energy levels, this all combines together to help you to lose body fat as well through improving your hormonal balance... Yet another reason to add warm lemon water to your daily morning routine!
That's a pretty simple trick, right?

Yoga for Beautiful Skin

This past Saturday,  took my first yoga class  ..

Now, I'm no stranger to yoga... In fact, I occasionally take a class at the studio next door to my office when I need a little stress relief.

This yoga class, however, was a little different than what I was used to.

It paired the various poses with Pranayama breathing — a sacred breathing technique that's been used in India for thousands of years to increase energy and vitality.

So instead of doing my usual Saturday gym run, I finally decided to try it.

Now, I could go on all day about how relaxing and refreshing it was...

Sometimes it's really great to just relax and BREATHE, and let the stress of the week melt away!

But there was something else I think you'll find VERY interesting about this class...

Just about everyone — men and women of ALL ages — had incredible glowing skin.

Chatting with one woman after class, I couldn't BELIEVE she was 73!

Now, a lot of this can be chalked up to how POSITIVE an experience yoga and meditation can be... And how that inner peace and happiness really does "radiate" outward.

I really believe that.

However, there's also a scientific reason why the women in this class looked rosy and youthful...

Oxygen makes skin RADIANT!

You've probably heard of oxygen facials before. They're expensive treatments you can get at most medical spas —  which use a cooling, oxygen-blowing "pen" to infuse energizing pure oxygen into skin's deeper layers.

And don't get me wrong, they're great. Several of my clients swear by them!

But the best way to get healing, revitalizing oxygen into your skin cells is, quite simply... breathing properly!

It's true — a study published in The Lancet, a global health journal, found that controlled breathing increased the body's overall oxygen saturation...

And that the benefits built even more when "training" was practiced for a month.

Not to mention, proper breathing helps reduce the stress hormone cortisol — as found by a 2011 study at the University of Miami — a vital link in slowing the visible aging process.

That's why today, I want to share a few of the breathing techniques I learned in that yoga class...

Techniques you can try RIGHT NOW, in your own home, totally free... And see instantly more radiant skin. Yes, really!

(Note: If you have low blood pressure, pulmonary disease, or other health concerns, always consult a doctor before beginning a yoga or meditation regimen.)

1) Kapalbhati Breath

When most of us breathe, our chests expand instead of our bellies — making each breath more shallow, and less oxygenating.

But practicing Kapalbhati breathing can help you learn to breathe with your belly instead.

Here's how it's done:
  1. Take a deep, slow inhale through your nose... filling your belly first, then your lower chest, and finally, your upper chest. Your collarbone should be the last thing to move. (This should feel like a "rolling wave.")

  2. Then, exhale the air quickly through your nose until your lungs are completely empty. Repeat 6 times.
When done correctly, this breath is AMAZINGLY refreshing, and ensures your lungs have all the time they need to completely absorb the rejuvenating oxygen you've inhaled.

2) Shitali Breath

This breath is both simple and REFRESHING... With a "cooling" sensation that helps you feel both relaxed and revitalized.
  1. First, curl your tongue. If you can't curl your tongue, make your lips into a small "O" shape.

  2. Now, breathe in a slow, long breath through that tiny opening, focusing on the cooling sensation you feel inside your mouth.

  3. Hold the breath for a few moments, before sighing it out through an open mouth.
This cooling sensation is amazing for refreshing and revitalizing your senses... And infusing your skin with a mega-dose of healthy oxygen!

3) Bhramari Breath

Also known as the "bee breath" or "humming breath," this breath does more than just feed your skin essential oxygen...

It's also great for dropping skin-damaging cortisol levels, to help protect your skin from stress-related premature aging.
  1. First, close your eyes and take a long, deep inhale through your nose until your lungs are completely full.

  2. Then, let this breath out by humming the letter "M"... A long, drawn-out hum that goes on as long as possible. (The pitch or volume doesn't matter... The point is simply to let this sound relax you.)
Keep doing this until you feel relaxed and refreshed. This one's my favorite... And I know you'll enjoy it too!

Now, let me be totally clear — I'm not recommending you replace your skincare routine with a yoga technique.

Rather, these techniques can ENHANCE your skincare routine by helping cells get a "head start" on rejuvenation.

They can also help increase circulation to the skin... which will in turn help your products work better!

Not to mention — the stress relief alone makes this a trick worth trying.

So give these techniques a try and let me know how you like them.

In the meantime... I'll be booking my next class!

Telomeres The real Keys to Anti-aging

This weeks Question:  What do you know about telomeres?  I’ve heard  that they hold the key  to anti-aging and products with telomeres can prevent  wrinkles.  But they are really expensive so I want an honest opinion.  Are they worth the money?
Answer: This is a BIG question and it deserves a BIG answer. Telomeres are the tips of th DNA strands that control our cells.  They keep these protein chains from unraveling much the way  the plastic tips on shoe laces  keep the laces intact. Studies have shown that telomeres become shortened as we  get older and the shortened telomeres can’t protect the cellular DNA.  When the DNA is damaged, the cells can no longer reproduce and die off. Studies have shown that  people with diabetes, heart diseae and dementia  have shortened telemeres. The telomeres of wrinkled, sagging skin cells  are also shortened.
A group of especially brilliant scientists  won the Nobel Prize for their discovery of a body enzyme  called telomerase  which keeps telomeres long and strong.  That’s the  good news.  The bad news? Telomerase actually helps cancer cells grow.  So clearly adding telomerase either in supplements or in skin care products  is  not a safe  anti-aging strategy .   Despite the  cancer link there are products  out there that  offer to improve telomeres.  There are supplements made from the Chinese herb Asparagus that  a single study has shown to increase telomeres in humans.  It  costs at least $200 a  bottle  and although it makes drug like claims , its safety and efficacy have not been approved by the FDA.
In skin care  products, its doubtful that the agents  that are meant to stimulate telomeres actually can be absorbed by the skin to get into the DNA.  But given the link between telomerase  and cancer growth,  lack of absorption  is a good thing for  you heath– if not your wallet.

Is there A Safe Way To Protect  Telomeres?

So   is there anything we can do  to help telomeres stay long and healthy ?  As it turns out the same healthy lifestyle factors including exercise, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, virgin olive oil, and antioxidants maintain telomere health.  At the same time, alcohol, smoking, stress and  UV exposure damage and shorten telomeres.   It  just  reinforces the importance of our lifestyle  choices for all aspects of health and fitness.
Trying to separate effective and affordable heath strategies from  commercial exploitation  of science is  like playing a game of whack a mole.  Every time  I can  clarify the  risks or benefits of   promises for things like  acrtic berries, bee venom  or  in this care, telomeres,  another    entrepreneur  comes up with a new and expensive  quick fix for beauty and health.  There are solid, safe options out there but they  are  just not a quick fix.

Are Telomeres The Key To Aging And Cancer?

Inside the nucleus of a cell, our genes are arranged along twisted, double-stranded molecules of DNA called chromosomes. At the ends of the chromosomes are stretches of DNA called telomeres, which protect our genetic data, make it possible for cells to divide, and hold some secrets to how we age and get cancer.

Telomeres have been compared with the plastic tips on shoelaces, because they keep chromosome ends from fraying and sticking to each other, which would destroy or scramble an organism's genetic information.
Yet, each time a cell divides, the telomeres get shorter. When they get too short, the cell can no longer divide; it becomes inactive or "senescent" or it dies. This shortening process is associated with aging, cancer, and a higher risk of death. So telomeres also have been compared with a bomb fuse.

Mitochondrial Function: The Other Half Of The Anti-Aging Story
Telomere science changed everything we knew about aging. But today, I want to talk to you about the other half of the anti-aging equation.
Maybe you  already know by protecting your telomeres, you can slow — and even reverse — the aging process.
You see, your telomeres are like little countdown clocks that protect the DNA in your cells. They shorten with each cell division. And the shorter they get the faster you develop the signs of aging. So by protecting and nourishing them, you can literally turn back the years.
Dr.Al Sears  the first doctors to put telomere science to the test. And for years, has been helping patients measure, protect and lengthen their telomeres.
also discovered that telomeres are only HALF the story when it comes to aging. Let me explain…
Telomeres protect the DNA inside the nucleus of each cell in your body. But there is other DNA in each of your cells outside the nucleus.
You see, your cells also contain tiny organelles called mitochondria. These are the power plants that turn fuel into energy. And your mitochondria have their own DNA and their own impact on the aging process.

Mainstream medicine still ignores the anti-aging power of mitochondria. But in today’s episode , I’m going to show you how to boost mitochondria while at home.
But first, let’s look at why your mitochondria are so important…
Each of your cells has at least one of these tiny power plants. The average cell has 200. And cells for important organs, like your heart and brain, can have more than 10,000.
But here’s the problem: As you age, these tiny power plants become damaged and start to die off. And you lose your capacity to make energy.
The first thing that happens is that your cellular energy takes a dive. You feel tired and fatigued. But then they malfunction, and devastating diseases can follow:
  • Schizophrenia and bipolar disease;
  • Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease;
  • Epilepsy, migraines, and nerve pain;
  • Loss of muscle control and balance;
  • Heart disease and strokes;
  • Fibromyalgia;
  • Blindness;
  • Diabetes;
  • Hepatitis C and cirrhosis. 1
Today, this happens at a faster rate than what your parents and grandparents experienced because now we’re living in a highly toxic environment. And exposure to toxic chemicals can cause the body to age faster.
You see, today, we’re faced with “accelerated aging” because of environmental factors, such as cigarette smoke and ultraviolet rays from the sun. And its effect can age you prematurely.

But there are ways to support mitochondria…

The Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine,  helps it's  patients prevent and repair damage to the mitochondria.
And they  do this not with Big Pharma meds, but with nutrients. Here are just four of the nutrients  recommend that have been proven to support your mitochondrial function and boost energy.

1.CoQ10: Co-enzyme Q10 sparks your aging cell engines to make more energy. And it’s a potent free radical scavenger, soaking up oxidized molecules before they cause damage.

its recommend taking 50 mg of CoQ10 daily. Look for the ubiquinol form. It’s more powerful and much easier for your body to absorb
.
2. Acetyl-L-Carnitine: The amino acid L-carnitine plays a critical role in making energy in your cells. It transports fatty acids into the mitochondria. There they can be burned for fuel. It also carries toxic waste out before it can do damage. But as you age, carnitine levels in your tissues drop. That’s why you need acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC). Your body converts L-carnitine to ALC. And studies show when your mitochondria slow down, ALC can fire them up again. Studies also show ALC reverses the malfunction in mitochondria as you age. ALC can also improve brain performance and increase neurotransmitters.
The best source of L-carnitine is grass-fed red meat. But you can also supplement.  by taking at least 500 mg of ALC every day on an empty stomach. Look for a formula with only L-carnitine and not D, L-carnitine. D-carnitine is synthetic.

3. N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC): This amino acid is also a powerful antioxidant. You see, NAC helps make glutathione, the body’s most powerful antioxidant. Glutathione is the main line of defense for mitochondria. It helps prevent and repair oxidative damage, thus protecting your mitochondria.6,7And there’s another reason I recommend NAC to my patients. Studies show it protects your telomeres from oxidative damage.8 So it throws a one-two anti-aging punch. I advise supplementing with 500 mg per day.

4. Rhodiola Rosea: This tough, little yellow flower is native to the arctic mountains of Eastern Siberia. And has been seen its power to energize  patients. In just a few months, they are visibly younger and stronger. And they say they feel that way, too.
Research proves what been seen in  patients. Lab Rats given rhodiola were able to swim 25% longer before becoming exhausted. That’s because the herb helped trigger energy synthesis in the mitochondria.
Rhodiola can also energize people. Just one 200 mg dose helped people in one study improve their exercise endurance. In another study, students taking 100 mg of rhodiola every day improved their capacity to work. Their learning ability increased by 61% and their fatigue levels dropped by 30%.11

You can find Rhodiola tea in your local health food store. Or you can take it in capsule form. It’s also called golden root or roseroot. But make sure you get a formula with enough of the herb’s active compounds. Look for an extract standardized to contain at least 3% rosavins and 1% salidroside. That’s the same ratio found in the natural root.
I recommend taking 200 mg a day on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning because rhodiola stimulates your brain.

Here’s what you can do right now to activate telomerase and grow your telomeres.

  1. Eat More Fruits and Vegetables. Diets lower in refined carbohydrates and higher in fresh fruits and vegetables are linked to longer telomeres.
Eating more magnesium-rich foods like leafy greens is linked to longer telomeres. The magnesium preserves and repairs DNA. Boost your magnesium levels by eating more kale, spinach, Swiss chard and seaweed. Other good choices include quinoa, lentils, almonds, sesame seeds, avocado, spirulina, and dark chocolate.

  2. Exercise. Studies show people who do little or no exercise have the highest risk of short telomeres. A study of 2,401 twins found vigorous exercise can lead to telomeres that act nine years younger.

  3. My PACE exercise program is the only system that specifically addresses the challenges of aging. It lets you get just the right amount of exertion to give you anti-aging benefits. And it takes as little as 12 minutes per day.

  4. Reduce Your Stress. I often recommend meditation to my patients. It’s one of the best ways to reduce stress. And it can also turn on telomerase activity. In one study of 39 caregivers, half listened to “relaxation” music. The other half practiced meditation for just 12 minutes a day. After only eight weeks, telomerase activity in the meditation group jumped 43%. The relaxation group went up a measly 3.7%.

  5. Raise Your HDL Levels. One of the best ways to maintain your telomeres is simply raise your HDL cholesterol as high as you can. In one study, people with the highest HDL had the longest telomeres. An easy way to raise your HDL is to take a special form of vitamin E called tocotrienols. Vitamin E is actually a group of eight nutrients, four tocopherols, and four tocotrienols. Studies show that tocotrienols give your HDL a huge boost. Look for a tocotrienol supplement with as much gamma and delta tocotrienols as you can.

  6. Boost Your Folic Acid. Folate or folic acid is one of the B vitamins. Studies show men with the highest folic acid levels have longer telomeres than those with low folate. Folate works by counteracting the effects of the amino acid homocysteine. High levels of homocysteine in your blood can triple the speed at which your telomeres shorten.
I recommend getting 800 mcg of folic acid every day for your telomeres. Calf’s liver is one of the richest sources with 215 mcg in just three ounces. Dairy, poultry, meat, eggs, and seafood are other good choices. Among vegetables, dark leafy greens are a good source. Try spinach, broccoli, asparagus and Brussels sprouts.

You can also take a folic acid supplement. But don’t overdo it. Too much folic acid can hide the symptoms of a vitamin B12 deficiency.
  7. Take a Potent Antioxidant. Raising the level of vitamin C in your cells could slow down the shortening of telomeres up to 62%.One study showed that vitamin C also stimulated telomerase activity in the formation and regeneration of stem cells. vitamin-c
To help reverse aging, I recommend taking 5,000 mg to 8,000 mg every day. Be sure to divide that amount into multiple smaller doses throughout the day.

Learn How to safely use Skin Needling /Micro skin needling

LISTEN-IN   today as Our guest  Michelle Berdeal Skelly talks about this amazing technique for younger  smoother skin:

In today’s world, many people are willing to try pretty much anything for smoother, younger-looking skin. Plastic surgery, non-surgical facelift, fractional laser resurfacing, botox, injectables, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, even snail slime and snake venom are said to improve skin's texture and appearance.

Add a new one to the list - micro-needling (also called derma-rolling). It’s been getting a lot of media and online attention these days.
he truth is…micro-needling has been around for a long time. Celebrities have been doing it to their skin for years and getting great results from it.

It is a form of collagen induction therapy, stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. Young skin has healthy amounts of collagen and elastin fibers, keeping it firm and supple. Physiological changes, environmental factors (especially sun exposure) and detrimental lifestyle choices (like smoking) all contribute to our skin’s loss of these supportive fibers as we age. With a reduction of collagen and elastin, we see sagging skin, wrinkles and enlarged pores.

Micro-needle rollers are fit with a rotating head lined with tiny acupuncture-type needles that delicately pierce the skin where the roller is rolled. With micro-needling, you divide your face into sections - forehead, right side, left side, chin and neck. With little pressure, you roll over each section 4-10 times, changing directions with each pass, up and down, back and forth and diagonally over each section, creating little tiny holes in the skin. After rolling, you then apply a serum and night cream to help fortify your skin’s protective barrier.

Medical professionals and advocates claim they firm the skin and diminish fine lines, wrinkles, even acne and post-surgery scarring by activating the skin's repairing and regeneration process. The tiny punctures from the needles signal to the body that the skin has been wounded. The body rushes collagen and elastin to that area to repair the skin, resulting in fewer wrinkles and healthier skin as collagen levels are boosted. Micro-needling encourages skincare treatments containing retinol, peptides and antioxidants to be absorbed deeply and penetrate better into the skin.

Many people feel compelled to use skin care products with ONLY organic and natural ingredients listed in them. This is understandable. Humans have created enough harmful chemicals to scare just about anyone. Plus, the media often hypes the dangers of common ingredients in skin care while keeping hush-hush on the extensive amount of effort that goes into producing safe and effective products.

Before And after photos  using the Rodan and Fields dermal roller

Picture 1 - Skin cancer procedure to remove pre-cancerous cells. Patient 3 month results using the REDEFINE regimen and gently rolling nose with the AMP MD roller and using night renewing serum 3 times a week after skin cancer surgery in July 2015. Note that she didn't start this routine until 3 weeks after surgery.
Picture 2 - After being a loyal user of another skin care company for 25 years, she decided to try Rodan + Fields. To achieve these results, she used SOOTHE for 3 months and REVERSE for 4 months.

Picture 3 -  The man here has been a painter most of his life. He's 74 and now retired but still an avid golfer.  He  spends a lot of time in the sun, as you can see in his before picture. He used the regular REVERSE regimen for 30 days and the next 30 days added in the Accelerator Pack. He was reluctant and skeptical before. He's still using the products, though no longer reluctantly!
